Collection Development / Displays / Teen Area / Children's area

My first collection I was responsible for was audio books for the entire library. I order juvenile, teen, adult and nonfiction titles as a part-time from both playaway and baker & taylor.

In other positions I have been able to order music CDs, Spanish titles, graphic novels and magazines.

Currently I am responsible for teen books and youth audio books.

Collection development is my favorite part of librarianship. I enjoy ordering, cultivating, and weeding collections so they are organized. I can create displays, read-alike lists and shelf talkers often. My current project is weeding the daunting children's picture area.
I possess 1 display in teen currently and I switch it out monthly. I also have a passive in the background that is a giant notepad that teens are allowed to write on with a question or prompt that is switched out every couple of weeks since it fills up so quickly!

I attempt to make the teen area fun and inviting since it is not a separate area. One aisle over is adult books, adults also use the tables in front of new teen books and just past new teen books is magazines.

I also plan and delegate the 2 displays in the children's area as well as some of the decorations. For instance I created a giant Darth Vader for May the 4th this year.

I do a lot of the planning/implementing of projects in the children's area as well. Seasonal board books have to come out of / go back into storage, shelf reading, weeding and decorating have to be done seasonally as well as just the general ensuring the area does not look like a tornado hit it.

I enjoy collection development and lists and planning, which I have learned along the way as I have been given more responsibility. My ongoing goals are to learn a bit more about the cataloging side and striving to keep up with trends in teen.
